Manyu Unity Cup and Sports Walk: Promoting Peace and effective School Resumption through Sports

The 3rd edition of the Manyu Unity Cup final took place over the weekend at the Mamfe Municipal Stadium, under the patronage of His Excellency Victor Mengot. The highly anticipated tournament that brought together 7000 spectators, from all corners of the division

 

The tournament, which was co-launched by the SDO Manyu, the president of the high Court and the Court of first instance mamfe and Mayor of Mamfe, aimed to preach peace and effective back-to-school in Manyu. The event was graced by dignitaries, including traditional leaders, Delegates and local authorities, who emphasized the importance of unity and education in the division.

In a thrilling finale, between Manyu home boy FC and Bachutem FC saw Bachutem emerged victorious, after defeating Manyu home boy FC in a penalty shootout by 5 goals to 4. The winning team was awarded a cash prize of 500, 000frs and a trophy while the runner-up team received a consolation prize.

The Manyu Unity Cup has become a beacon of hope and reconciliation in the Division, promoting peaceful coexistence among communities. The tournament also encouraged young people to prioritize education and strive for excellence.

The Mayor of Mamfe Robertson Tabenchong Ashu praised the population for their massive participation for the success of the event and thanking all sponsors, and stakeholders for their support. This tournament is a testament to the power of sports in promoting peace and unity,” he said.

Plans are underway for the 4th edition, promising an even bigger and better tournament. The Manyu Unity Cup has set a precedent for community-driven initiatives promoting peace and effective back to school for 2024/2024 academic year.

Beyond the the annual “Manyu Unity Football Tournament” and other sporting activities such as Manyu Unity Sport Walk and the Manyu Women and Girls Marathon, which he has initiated and is bankrolling, drummed the need for children to be allowed to freely go to school.
