The population of Mamfe gathered at the Egbekaw New Layout for an Ecumenical Service to honor the memory of 26 innocent civilians and 1 soldier who lost their lives due to terrorist violence on November 6, 2023.
Organized by the Mamfe Council under the leadership of Mayor Robertson Tabenchong Ashu, and the Senior Divisional Officer of Manyu Division Yves Betrand Awounfack. The service brought together Elites from Manyu with H.E Minister Menghot Arrey Victor, Divisional Officer of Mamfe Subdivision, member of parliament, Regional Councilors, the Paramount Chief of Mamfe, and residents of Mamfe subdivision to commemorate the first anniversary of the tragic Egbekaw incident.
The Mayor of Mamfe said it was important to remember those who tragically left on that day and to let their families know they have not been forgotten
Addressing the aggrieved community, the Minister in charge of special Duties at the Presidency Victor Mengot Arrey said the painful event is a stark reminder for the population never to allow such terror in their land again
An olive branch was extended to Separatist fighters for them to drop their guns and join the mainstream in order for them to rebuild the community.
This solemn occasion serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made and reflects the community’s resilience and solidarity in the face of adversity. It is a call for peace and unity, reinforcing the bonds among the people of Mamfe.A monument was erected on the scene of the massacre as the population of Egbekaw in particular and Mamfe in general vowed to work in unity to promote peace and social cohesion
